CONTROLS

All the controls are customizable in-game.

  • Movement: Move forward and backwards, plus turning left and right.
  • Strafing: This is moving left and right without turning.
  • Fire: This fires off a charge from whatever ring you're wearing, provided you have enough charges left to use it. The White Ring is always capable of firing.
  • Run: This allows you to move at a faster rate, whether you're moving forward, backward, or strafing.
  • Jump: This allows you to jump.
  • Events: This allows you to trigger events throughout the game. The most common event is opening a door, but there are other events as well.
  • Shield: When the White Ring is worn, this control generates a shield of protection. See description below.
  • Cycle Ring: By default, you use the keys 1 through 6 to select rings, but you can set the mouse or gamepad to cycle through them as well.
  • Look Up/Look Down: Allows you to look up and down (surprise!). The mouse does this automatically.

THE RINGS
  • White Ring: Fires a single white energy ball which uses no charges, so it is always available to attack with. Since the White Ring's primary power is defense, its attack capability is quite low. The Magic Shield will consume 75 charges each time it's used. Also, if you have less than 100 charges, wearing the White Ring will slowly regenerate your charges.
  • Green Ring: Fires up to two green star blasts. Each shot requires three charges and is much more powerful than the White energy ball.
  • Red Ring: Fires up to two red-hot molten balls of energy. Each shot requires six charges.
  • Blue Ring: "Since this is Asrael's ring, I'm not totally sure what this ring does but I believe it controls some kind of lightning magic."
  • Purple Ring: "Again, this is Asrael's ring, so I'm not quite sure what it does."
  • Black Ring: "Asrael also could not take off his native Ring, but he found a way to duplicate it and give his ultimate power to his loyal followers. I have never seen him use this Ring for anything, so I have no idea what it does."

THE ITEMS
  • H Medicine: Adds 5 health points.
  • Blue Heart: Adds up to 25 health points, up to 100. Ineffective if picked up at other times.
  • Black Heart: Very rare, maximizes your health (200 points).
  • Area Map: Allows you to see a map of where you've been. One exists in almost every level.
  • Arcane Teardrops: Sight becomes greatly improved for a brief amount of time.
  • Charge Crystal: Adds 20 charge points.
  • Charge Orb: Adds 50 charge points.
  • Drain Staff: Adds 100 charge points.
  • Ultracharge: Exceptionally rare, adds a tremendous 500 charges.
  • Holy Shield: Works exactly like the White Ring's shield power, except drains no charges and any ring can be worn.
  • Unholy Shield: All rings drain no charges for a limited amount of time, even the White Shield!

OBJECTIVES

In addition to fighting your way out of each area, every level has a secret objective. This may be as simple as finding a certain item, or it may be very complex. Objectives are not listed, so you're on your own to figure out what they are. If you complete the level you're on, you'll be told if you completed the objective or not.

THE ENEMIES

"The turncoat demon was able to tell me this small amount of information about my new enemies before he was ruthlessly slain by his brethren..."
  • Brutus: This is a weaker demon, but they're very common. They're fist-fighters, as they have no magical abilities, so they have to get close to harm you. In large groups and up-close, these guys are a real headache...literally.
  • Abishai: Another weak demon, but endowed with the powers of the Green Ring.
  • Bladelash: Much stronger than a Brutus, but not as common. These are sword-wielding demons with vertically-aligned jaws and long, barbed tongues capable of ripping flesh with ease.
  • Ironhorn: The tougher, meaner, uglier cousin of the Abishai, endowed with the powers of the Red Ring.
  • Zombie Hulk: Asrael's success with Brutus was improved further with this undead transformation of the brawler. Very difficult to put down for good.
  • Kricek: He's in charge of the psionic communications link between the mines and Asrael's stronghold.
